Mbale Northern City Clerk is on the spot for allegedly colluding with local investors to destroy wetlands in the city.
Led by a team of technocrats including the City Environment Officer Rhoda Nayribi and others to ascertain the truth of the matter, the Resident City Commissioner Mbale Ahmada Washaki directed the town clerk to report to police and make a statement on why he permitted illegal developments on Nkoma Wetland.
Washaki who visited the site said Busiku colluded with unknown persons who poured marram on land opposite Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) meant for the government fish fry. The RCC said Busiku is denying knowledge of the developments yet he is the officer in charge.
Washaki also said Busiku has denied development for northern city division in many ways which includes his refusal to pass a financial budget for northern city division for the year 2022/23, conniving with Kikindu market leadership to suspend elections for the last seven years, collection of money from Kikindu market vendors and yet rubbish collection is a problem and leaving the market dirt among others.
City Environmental Officer, Rhoda Nyaribe, condemned the act saying they have started investigating the circumstances under which the land is being developed.
However Martin Busiku denied the allegations of colluding with local investors to construct in wetlands saying he called the person who claims to own the land who unfortunately by the time the leaders inquired was a way in Busia.
