Government has set up a boundary mark along the banks of River Manafwa, at Leeresi, Butaleja town council, in a bid to restore the wetland said to have been degraded by farmers.
According to Joseph Engola, the commissioner in the ministry of Water and environment, who launched the demarcation exercise, 60% of the population have encroached on the river banks of Manafwa in Butaleja.
The boundary demarcation which has begun in Butalejja will later move to the regions of Tororo and Teso.
The district natural resources officer, Lamula Were, called for calm among the affected residents, and reassured them that government will provide them a solution.
