Mbale Municipal Council has asked locals within the area to accept the privatization

of garbage collection as an initiative from Council to help in reduction and management of garbage that has been creating a very bad look of what used to be the best Town in East Africa.

Edward Lwanga the Mbale Municipality Town Clerk said that locals should embrace this new method since they have been accusing authorities of delaying to collect garbage in Town adding that the locals now have to pay this private collectors to pick the garbage every month to create order and discipline.

Safi Mafabi the head of elders in Mbale District said the plan shall work if Mbale Municipal Council is serious on the mater adding that it will be hard for one to recklessly dump garbage if he or she is paying for the service adding that this will also help Council improve on their revenue base and provide better service.

This comes amidst a lot of concerns from locals and leaders on the continues dumping of garbage on the streets and corridors of Mbale Town making a Town that was once known as the cleanest across the East Africa the dirtiest in Uganda.

There have been a lot of attempts to stop this including a Monthly campaign started by the Town Mayor Mutwalibi Zandia who joined hands with the technocrats, Politicians in Mbale Municipality and the area locals on every last Wednesday of the Month to collect the garbage and clean the Town as a motivation for improved hygiene.

But just like many of its kind the campaign has since lost value due to ignorance from the pioneers who stopped conducting the exercise leading to an increase of the problem.
