The State Minister for Lands Housing & Urban development has walked out of the Parliament’s Rules Committee meeting that had been convened to investigate her.
Hon. Persis Namuganza also Member of Parliament for Bukono County in Namutumba District this morning, 14th September, 2022 stormed out of the meeting in protest saying the Committee should first disclose the evidence it has about her undermining Parliament before she proceeds to defend herself.
This was her second day of appearing before the committee headed by Abdu Katuntu.
When she appeared yesterday, she asked the committee investigating her to produce evidence to show that she undermined Parliament.
The minister on Tuesday, appeared before the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline following a directive from Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa for her to be investigated for allegedly questioning the integrity of the House.
Namuganza is being investigated by the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline for allegedly bringing Parliament into disrepute.
Namuganza is alleged to have said that Parliament is powerless and unable to censure her. This was in relation to her involvement in the Naguru-Nakawa land allocations.
Parliament indicted Namuganza in May 2022 following a report by the Adhoc Committee on Naguru-Nakawa land where she was faulted for falsifying a Presidential directive that saw Uganda Land Commission allocate land to certain entities.
