Local council five chairpersons from the six districts of Bugisu region have unanimously agreed to push government to gazette a cultural leader.
In history, the 2022 circumcision ceremony in the Bugisu region is going to be inaugurated on 13th August without the cultural leader [ Umukuka] after Masaba cultural institution going, for now two years without a gazetted cultural leader.
This has been caused by long arguments between John Amuramu Wagabyalile and Jude Mike Mudoma after both claimed to be the truly elected 3rd cultural leader.
Jackson Wakwaika the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa says that it this going to be a shame for Bamasba when circumcision is launched without the cultural leader.
He adds that as LCV chairpersons, they have agreed to meet the concerned authorities and seek advice about what it takes to gazette the cultural leader.
Kigayi Kimono, the LCV chairperson of Manafwa district blamed Bamasaba for politisizing the cultural institution whereby people see two elected cultural leaders from different political party angles.
Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi the LCV chairperson of Bududa district says that LCV chairpersons have not been united which has caused this long none gazettement of the Umukuka.
He adds that since Masaba cultural institution was created after four district councils in 2000 at that time passing a resolution that was taken to parliament for approval before the government granted Bugisu a cultural institution, they are going to use the same method to demand the government for gazettement of cultural leader.
Kamoti also says that Bugisu is losing a lot from the central government due to not having a cultural leader which will not be accepted.
